Sylvester Hooks was a certified electrician when he was hired as a janitor in 1975 by Hank Person (owner of Teters Sweepers) in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was hired to clean up areas where technicians repaired vacuums. While cleaning the shop, Sylvester observed how to repair vacuums. One day when Mr. Person's sons did not show up for work, he called Sylvester out front to wait on some customers. He repaired the customer's vacuums very quickly.  Sylvester had become a master at repairing  vacuum cleaners.

 

    In 1977, Sylvester married Anna Syas and they repaired vacuums  out of their garage. He went door to door repairing vacuum cleaners and acquired

individual and commercial customers. They decided to open a vacuum store. Six months later, they opened their first  store in North Land Shopping Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1979, Sylvester Lee Hooks III was added to the family. In 1983, Ashley Ann Hooks was also added to the family.

 

  In 1988, the Hooks family moved to Dallas, Texas.  In 1992, Hooks Vacuums re-opened on Main Street in the heart of downtown Richardson, Texas.

In 2005, grandson Pharoah Hooks was born and in 2008, granddaughter Jordyn Hooks was added to the Hooks Family.

 

 

 

HOOKS VACUUM COMPANY is a thriving family-owned business which has been and will continue to be a part of Downtown Richardson for years to come.
